Galaxy tri-folding phone leak shows a multitasking trick that could change how you use your phone

Samsung’s long-rumored Galaxy tri-folding phone is expected to come out towards the end of this year. It’s been in the rumor mill for quite some time now, and a fresh new leak is giving us a glimpse into some of its UI design and multitasking features.

The phone’s name is still under wraps (some call it Galaxy TriFold, some Galaxy G Fold, both somewhat unimpressive names for what an impressive device that one would be), but we know some things about it. For one, it will reportedly feature a big 10.1-inch internal foldable display.

On this big display, you will reportedly be able to use multiple apps side by side. Right now, for the Galaxy Z Fold series, you can run three apps side by side, two of which are spread on just 25% of the screen, which could make it difficult for you to see all the details in them.

However, the Galaxy Z Trifold will reportedly allow you to use three regular phone screen-sized app windows side by side. The feature is said to be called “Split Trio” and is likely to debut with One UI 8.5.

But that’s not all. The leak also indicates that another Galaxy Z TriFold feature would be the way the cover screen is mirrored on the internal foldable screen. The contents of three home screens from the device’s cover screen are said to be able to be mirrored on the internal screen. So yep, you get three home screens at the same time on the big display, which is wonderful for productivity.

Luckily, if you don’t like the mirroring of the home screen setups, you can disable the feature, which is similar to other Galaxy Z phones at the moment.

Meanwhile, rumors indicate the Galaxy Z TriFold will run Android 16 and One UI 8.x out of the box. The expected launch is for later this year, or even early next year, but the date has not been announced just yet. The phone is set to receive seven major OS updates, just like other premium Galaxy phones.

It’s rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and it’s expected to rock a triple-camera setup similar to the Z Fold 7 and a thin body.

The tri-folding Galaxy phone has only Huawei’s tri-fold to compete with, as tri-folding phones are still far from mainstream. It sounds like a really exciting device, and I’m personally eager to see it.
