Lisa McHugh has shared that her life has been “incredibly tough” in her first update since opening up about her health battle.

The county singer was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), which is a condition where the brain and body have trouble communicating, causing a wide variety of neurological symptoms.

She was dealing with facial pain, headaches and losing function in both of her legs around the time of her diagnosis in July. Lisa appeared in an update, where she could be seen sitting on her couch with two crutches beside her, RSVP Live reports.

In the video, she said: “Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well. Firstly, I wanted to just come on and say hi and secondly to say just a massive thank you to each and every single one of you for the completely overwhelming amount of messages, prayers, cards, emails and phone calls. It has just been overwhelming – it’s the only word I have for it.

“The love and support I’ve had since my last social media post, which has caused a lot of concern for so many people, but no one more so than myself and my family.

“The last seven weeks have been a complete rollercoaster and every kind of emotion under the sun and every kind of emotion has happened in that time. It’s been incredibly tough. I[m not going to lie, it’s been very, very tough.”

She continued: “It’s also been a massive wake-up call, for me especially. The last few years especially have been very, very stressful for me trying to be a mum and also trying to have a career as well as that. There have been a lot of stressful times and periods over the last few years – I suppose none more so than the last year, since [her daughter] Hallie was born.

“That has been the most stressful period of my life. We never took the time to properly process what had been going on. We just kept powering on. I think now I’ve really realised that the reason this whole thing has happened is due to stress and my nervous system just having a complete overload.

“It’s a way of my body just saying, ‘No’ and ‘This is not the way you’re living now and it’s not healthy for your body and it’s not sustainable’. For me, my body has just completely burnt out and I need to completely reset the way that I’m living my life from here on in.”

She shared that her recovery has started and she’s “on the right track” as she focuses on her mindset, emotions, nutrition, sleep, exercise and her work/life balance.

However, she’s not sure how long her recovery will take, but she knows she will make “a 100% full recovery”.

Lisa said: “I fully believe that I have the ability to do that and I will do it. I just don’t know how long it’s going to take. I’m just going to have to have patience, but I also know that from the day I started everything online and my career, you have been incredible.

“Your support has meant everything and your well wishes through every period of my life, I really could do with that right now.”

The singer started to get emotional as she spoke directly to her fans.

“I don’t want to get upset,” Lisa shared, before speaking to her supporters again, saying: “[Her supporter’s] positivity is exactly what I need around me and that my family need at the minute, so with that said, I want to bring you on this journey with me.

“I want to show you what I’m doing for my recovery – the good, the tough, but more importantly, the reality of our lives right now and from here on in.”

She shared that the next time people see her, she won’t be using her crutches as she wants to show everyone what she’s doing to recover.
