Belfast city centre road closures in place this weekend

Traffic disruption should be expected around the city on Saturday and Sunday

With a handful of festive events happening across Belfast this weekend, road users are advised of closures in place on Saturday and Sunday.

To accommodate the Belfast Christmas light switch-on event and the annual 5k and 1k festive fun run, a number of roads in the city centre will be closed on November 15 and 16.

On Saturday, Belfast City Council have advised visitors to the city centre and those attending the switch-on event to plan their journey in advance, use public transport and allow extra time for their journeys.

The Belfast Christmas Market opening and Santa’s Arrival Parade to Castle Court Shopping Centre also take place on Saturday so large crowds are to be expected during these events.

Here are the road closures in Belfast across the weekend:

Saturday, November 15

From 5am to 10am, Donegall Square North will close for all vehicular traffic except Translink services.

From 4.30pm to 8.30pm closures will be in place at:

• Royal Avenue between Rosemary Street and Castle Place
• Donegall Place
• High Street between Castle Junction and Cornmarket
• Castle Lane
• Callender Street from bollards to Castle Lane
• Castle Place

From 5.30pm to 8.30pm closures will be in place at:

• Wellington Place
• Donegall Square North
• Donegall Square West

Sunday, November 16

For the festive fun-run, the following roads face restrictions:

• Fisherwick Place FULL CLOSURE 8.30am – 11am – Howard Street to Chichester Street
• College Avenue FULL CLOSURE 8.30am – 11am – King Street to College Square North
• Millfield Lane Closure Citybound 04.00 – 11.30 – Peters Hill to North Street
• Carrick Hill Lane Closure City bound 4am – 11.30am – Clifton Street to Donegall Street
• Talbot Street FULL CLOSURE 8.30am – 11am – ALL
• Donegall Place FULL CLOSURE 8.30AM – 11AM – ALL
• Castle Place FULL CLOSURE 8.30am – 11am – ALL
• Royal Avenue FULL CLOSURE 8.30am – 11am – ALL
• High Street FULL CLOSURE 8.30am – 11am – ALL
• North Street FULL CLOSURE 8.30am – 11am – ALL
