“Once reviewed there may or may not be a need for further interviews.”
A Co Down councillor facing a charge of rape has appeared at court today.
Downpatrick independent Cadogan Enright is further charged with sexual assault and false imprisonment on dates from February 2022 to November 2024.
The 68-year-old former Alliance representative was present before the magistrate (Nov 20).
A prosecution solicitor said: “The file target date is the 26 December.
“There is currently a phone examination outstanding.
“Once reviewed there may or may not be a need for further interviews.”
The alleged injured party cannot be identified due to court reporting restrictions.
District judge Amanda Brady adjourned the case to January 15 for an update.
The Downpatrick defendant has been an elected member for the area since 2006 and was present (remotely) at the local authority’s environment committee last night (Nov 19).
More recently, the Newry, Mourne and Down District councillor had joined Alliance in 2022 before resigning from the party earlier this year in July.
He claimed he did not have the support of the party, and that it was not looking to retain the south Down seat in 2027.
