Three people rescued after becoming trapped in ‘well developed’ flat fire

Fire crews were met with a well-developed fire in a ground-floor flat with persons trapped by smoke on the floor above.

Three people have been rescued by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus following an accidental fire at a flat in Co Armagh.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Cludee Terrace in Armagh on Friday night following reports of a fire in a ground-floor flat with multiple people trapped on the floor above.

Four fire appliances and two officers were dispacted to the scene where they were met by a “well developed” blaze.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: ” Following an initial call at 2311hrs on Friday 17 th October 2025, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended reports of a flat fire with persons trapped at Culdee Terrace, Armagh.

“Appliances from Armagh, Keady, Newtownhamilton and Lurgan attended alongside two officers.

“Crews were met with a well-developed fire in a ground-floor flat with persons trapped by smoke on the floor above. Breathing apparatus crews rescued 3 people utilising smoke hoods, and a further person was treated for smoke inhalation before being conveyed to hospital as a precaution.

“Firefighters utilised breathing apparatus, gas monitors, hose reel jets and ventilation fans to resolve the incident. The cause was determined as accidental.

“Crews left the incident at 0113hrs on Saturday 18th October 2025.”
