London-based psych-disco sextet PARTICLS have released their luminous new single, ‘Bullet Train (Frida)’, offering a tantalising preview of their highly anticipated debut EP, Every Now & Then, due November 15th.
Produced by Strange Pill at Mashrooms Studios, the track weaves together folk-inspired melodies, 70s rock textures, and glitching psychedelic flourishes, reflecting themes of presence, authenticity, and the joy of creation – qualities the band sees embodied in Frida Kahlo’s enduring spirit.
The band explain: “Bullet Train is a vague love letter to Frida Kahlo… and bullet trains, somehow,” the band explains. “There is a message about presence and authenticity in there that I think Frida certainly personifies. The EP as a whole is just an expression of the enjoyment we all get making music together. We spent two days cutting rhythm tracks on a boat studio called Lightship 95, engineered by David Holmes, before deconstructing and reconstructing them at Mashrooms Studios with Ben and Zahara from Strange Pill. It was a lot of fun (and a lot of work) to make, and in the end we just hope it’s fun to listen to!”
The upcoming EP Every Now & Then captures PARTICLS’ dynamic chemistry, blending 1970s progressive textures with contemporary psych and disco rhythms. The unusual recording process—beginning aboard Lightship 95 and then reimagined at Mashrooms Studios—has resulted in a playful, danceable record that is both musically intricate and melodically rich, celebrating the sheer joy of collaborative creation.
Formed amid the haze of a Kerri Chandler DJ set in the woods, PARTICLS emerged with a mission: to make people dance while retaining the adventurous spirit of 70s progressive music from their earlier projects.
