Katie Taylor and husband share photo as they enjoy romantic Italian getaway after recent wedding

Boxing icon Katie Taylor became stepmother to five youngsters when she wed Sean McCavanagh this year

Irish sporting icon Katie Taylor is soaking up some well-earned downtime in Italy alongside her new husband. The boxing legend, who tied the knot with American property agent Sean McCavanagh earlier this year, posted a picture on social media showing herself on a boat at Lake Garda with her partner, with the simple caption “Lake Garda.”

Taylor and McCavanagh exchanged vows in early 2025. The Bray native had sparked rumours she was married after being photographed sporting what looked like a wedding band ahead of her summer clash with Amanda Serrano. Following her third victory over Serrano, Taylor’s father, Pete, revealed during a podcast that Katie had indeed got married, reports the Irish Mirror.

In recent weeks, Taylor and her spouse have been seen out and about on several occasions, including in Ireland where the pair dropped into a rehabilitation facility in Wicklow. During the visit, Taylor chatted with residents of the centre about her boxing career and the highs and lows that accompany professional sport.

Taylor, who became stepmother to five youngsters when she wed McCavanagh, hasn’t stepped into the ring since July and the 39 year old’s next move remains unclear.

Many had expected the 2012 Olympic gold medallist to hang up her gloves after that third meeting with Serrano, but three months later no firm announcement about her future has been forthcoming. Croke Park has frequently been mooted as a potential venue for Taylor to make one final triumphant return to Ireland, and whilst all parties involved seem keen to make it happen, promoter Eddie Hearn doesn’t think it will materialise.

“After the last fight with Amanda Serrano, it’s the first time I’ve heard her say in a press conference ‘if I fight again’,” Hearn told Sky Sports in August.

“It’s been a remarkable career. It would be a great way to go out by winning the trilogy against Amanda Serrano but the lure of a Croke Park fight would be something quite spectacular”.

“If the Croke Park opportunity presents itself, it would be very difficult for her to turn down.”
