Liverpool Indie-Rock Risers The Memos Return With Melancholic New Single ‘She’s On Her Own’ – Backseat Mafia

Liverpool outfit The Memos continue their ascent with the release of ‘She’s On Her Own’, the latest single lifted from their forthcoming EP Futures Ours to Find.

Already carving out a reputation for raw energy, heartfelt songwriting and sharp lyricism, the band once again deliver a sound that fuses 90s Britpop sensibilities with a modern, guitar-driven indie edge. Opening in stripped-back fashion, the track builds through an acoustic-led chorus before bursting into a euphoric main riff, climaxing with a searing guitar solo and a defiant, full-band finale.

At the heart of the single lies frontman Aaron Spencer’s affecting vocal, equal parts commanding and vulnerable, bringing an emotional depth to the band’s trademark anthemic sound.

Speaking on the song’s origins, Spencer shares:
“‘She’s On Her Own’ was inspired by being raised by a single parent. As a kid when you see your mother smiling, it’s all you really need, but as you grow older you start to understand the struggle behind the smile. It’s a song that I never thought I’d release, but I played it to the band and they loved it. We knew it had to be shared. In the studio we pushed ourselves sonically to bring out the emotion in the story. A song we are really proud of as it feels hard to compare to other artists or our influences.”

Spencer’s songwriting journey has already seen collaborations with Kyle Falconer (The View) and Justin Hawkins (The Darkness), and the upcoming EP Futures Ours to Find—recorded and produced at The Motor Museum by Ben Harper (The Mysterines, The Zutons, The Sherlocks)—marks a confident new chapter.

The Memos are fast becoming one of Liverpool’s most exciting rising bands. Comparisons to Sam Fender and Catfish and the Bottlemen have followed, while their growing live reputation has seen them take to stages beyond Merseyside, including a performance at The Halliwell Jones Stadium to 10,000 people.
