Coronation Street viewers are convinced they have ‘worked out’ who Sean Tully’s next romance will be – and it’s a familiar face
Coronation Street fans believe they’ve figured out Sean Tully’s upcoming love interest on the famous cobbles.
Sean, portrayed by Anthony Cotton, first graced the ITV soap in 2003 and quickly became a cherished and iconic character.
The Rovers Return barman has been at the centre of numerous major storylines over the years, from experiencing homelessness to becoming a father to Dylan Wilson, played by Liam McCheyne.

This year saw Sean heartbroken when Dylan was sent to the STC, only to be released a few months later. As viewers will remember, Dylan was sent there following his involvement in the death of Mason Radcliffe, played by Luca Toolan.
Sean’s tumultuous love life on the ITV soap has often been a hot topic among fans, due to his series of unsuccessful relationships. During his time on the show, Sean has dated characters such as Billy Mayhew, played by Daniel Brocklebank, and Marcus Dent, played by Charlie Condou, reports the Daily Star.
His most recent romance was in 2022, when he went on a date with a dentist named Lawrence White, but it didn’t go any further after Sean discovered that he was married.
However, fans are speculating that Sean is about to find love once more, and it’s with a familiar face. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, people suggested newcomer Rafael, who works at Debbie Webster’s hotel, played by Sue Devaney.
One fan wrote: “That Rafael is becoming one of my favourites!” Another chimed in: “I agree, he needs more scenes.”
A third suggested: “He could be a possible romance for Sean? I’d love for him to finally find someone.” Another added: “Same here, it’s been ages.”
Off-screen, Sean’s actor Anthony Cotton is happily in a relationship with long-term partner Peter Eccleston, whom he first met on the set of Coronation Street where Peter works as a props buyer.
The length of their relationship and their marital status remain unclear. However, back in 2010, Cotton and Eccleston exchanged rings as a symbol of their commitment to each other.
Peter isn’t an actor but did make an appearance in the film Let Him Have It alongside his uncle in 1991, where he portrayed an eight year old version of Eccleston’s character Derek.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
