Kill Shamrocks took on Munterconnaght in the Ruddens Service Station Junior Football Championship Final at Breffni Park on Sunday afternoon

The Football Review Committee’s alterations to Gaelic football have transformed the sport, with 66 per cent of players this week declaring their playing experience is ‘much improved’. However, that doesn’t ring true for every match.

We’re now deep into county final season, which has traditionally brought some rather challenging weather conditions. Storm Amy left its impact on GAA fixtures across the country this weekend and certainly didn’t assist any games that managed to proceed.

At Breffni Park on Sunday, Kill Shamrocks faced Munterconnaght in the Ruddens Service Station Junior Football Championship Final, reports the Irish Mirror. The clash served as the opening fixture of a double header of club finals at Cavan GAA’s headquarters, with the intermediate decider following afterwards.

Anticipation may have reached boiling point in both clubs leading up to the final, but that enthusiasm was swiftly dampened by a painfully poor opening half of football in Cavan town.

Following 30 minutes of play, the scoreboard displayed Kill 0-1 Munterconnaght 0-1 – with both tallies arriving from 14 yard frees.

One spectator at Breffni Park posted on Twitter: “This might genuinely be the worst county final i’ve ever seen in my life. Both scores from 13m frees.”

Fortunately, matters improved considerably from that point. Much like the buses, several scores then arrived simultaneously. The half-time tally stood at Kill 0-3 Munterconnaght 0-2.

Action genuinely intensified, comparatively speaking, in the second period as Munterconnaght fought their way to a 0-11 to 0-10 triumph. The quality of football on display will be of no concern to them as they revel in a county title victory and anticipate the upcoming Ulster club series.

In contrast, the intermediate final saw a higher scoring game, with Cuchullainns triumphing over Butlersbridge 0-24 to 0-18.
