Former Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has opened up shooting her high-octane drama in Beflast.
Katherine Kelly, renowned for her stint on Coronation Street, has revealed details about her thrilling new part in a forthcoming Channel 4 drama shot in Belfast. The celebrated actress, who portrayed Becky McDonald on the ITV soap between 2006 and 2012, appeared alongside BBC hosts Alex Jones and Clara Amfo on The One Show today to discuss her latest thriller.
In Flight, which promises to keep viewers ‘on the edge of their seat’, features Katherine as lead character Jo Conran, a single mother and flight attendant drawn into narcotics trafficking to safeguard her son.
Penned and co-developed by Marcella’s Mike Walden and Slow Horses’ Adam Randall, In Flight has been branded a “high-octane drama”.

Katherine explained: “It’s a twisty, turny thriller. When I got the script, it’s such a brilliant page-turner, but at the heart of it, it’s about what lengths a parent would go to to save their child.”
Although the programme spans several nations, the complete series was shot in Belfast, which Katherine couldn’t stop praising, reports Leicestershire Live.
“We shot it all in Belfast, which is amazing,” she said. “I can’t recommend it enough. For a start, you can’t get a bad meal in Belfast, let me tell you! It’s the most fantastic place!”
She continued to describe the challenges they faced whilst filming during a storm, despite attempting to preserve the impression they were in sunny Thailand.
“The puddles were just rising and rising and we’re all there in strappy tops and mojitos trying to make it look like we’re somewhere really sunny and it was so cold!” she disclosed.
“But when you see that scene you wouldn’t know,” she added, “That was amazing.”
Joining Katherine for In Flight are other cast members including Stuart Martin from Miss Scarlet, Bronagh Waugh from The Fall, Corinna Brown from Heartstopper, and Ambreen Razia from Ted Lasso.
In another part of the show, Katherine unveiled her new role in the forthcoming Alan Partridge series from Steve Coogan.
“That is very exciting!” Clara exclaimed, “But what can you actually tell us about it?”
“Very little and I’m dying to tell you about it,” Katherine confessed. “But yes, needless to say I did fancy a bit of comedy after this one!”.
“I had the best time,” she affirmed, adding that the show is set to air this Autumn.
The One Shows weekdays on BBC One at 7pm and In Flight is coming to Channel 4 on August 12.
