They may not have got the result they were hoping for in the end but the Rooney family certainly enjoyed their trip to Northern Ireland.

Wayne and wife Colleen spent the last week on the north coast supporting son Kai as he played for Manchester United in the Premier section of the SuperCupNI.

It was a successful week for the Red Devils as they made it through to Friday night’s showpiece final at Coleraine Showgrounds.

Unfortunately they came up short against Southampton in front of a packed house as Jude Daniels’ second half goal was enough to secure the trophy for the Saints.

Despite the disappointment of United missing out on the trophy Rooney senior took to social media to post how much they had enjoyed their trip and thanked everyone for the warm welcome.

“Great few days in Coleraine for the @SuperCupNI. Well done to Kai and the @ManUtd lads on a brilliant effort throughout the tournament. Congratulations to Southampton on the win. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome,” Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer posted on ‘X’.

Before Friday’s final they paid a visit to Curry’s amusements in Portrush, where the family was spotted having fun on the bumper cars.

They were also only too happy to pose for countless selfies with the fans.

The former England captain made time for the fans all week along with Michael Carrick, whose son Jacey was also playing for United.
