Emmerdale fans were left in tears over a recent Robron scene, which saw Robert Sugden beg Aaron Dingle to stay alive after he was pushed off a cliff by John Sugden
Just when we thought Emmerdale’s Robron couldn’t surprise us any more, a recent scene has left fans gobsmacked.
Emmerdale director Matt Hilton has been spilling the beans about the behind-the-scenes of their recent clifftop stunt, which saw John Sugden drag Aaron Dingle into a gorge, setting up Robert Sugden in the process. In the aftermath, we saw Robert rushing down to aid his ex Aaron, the love of his life, holding him while crying out for help.
The poignant scene saw Robert pleading with injured Aaron to stay alive, after dialling for an ambulance. Robert wept as he spoke to an unconscious Aaron, and viewers were moved to tears by the performance.
But as if the scene wasn’t already impactful enough, director Matt has now revealed most of that scene was unplanned. Matt confirmed that due to them being behind schedule, he gave Robert actor Ryan Hawley some basic guidance on the scene in question, but it was largely improvised.
Matt revealed: “We were about half a day behind schedule when we got to this scene and had to create an amended version of the scene in the situ. I basically asked Ryan to run in, pick Aaron up, do what comes natural and just break our hearts. And did he…”, reports the Mirror.
Viewers were astounded by this, cherishing the scene even more now that they knew it was almost entirely performed spontaneously. The emotion and script all being in the moment, and being actor Ryan’s own decision, left fans lauding the star and expressing their disbelief.
One fan took to social media, exclaiming: “HE IMPROVISED THIS WHOLE SCENE OMG THE ACTOR YOU ARE RYAN HAWLEY.”
Another admirer simply stated: “Oh wow,” while a third chimed in with: “HE WHAT.”
A fourth viewer expressed their disbelief: “I CAN’T BELIEVE RYAN IMPROVISED THIS WHOLE SCENE.”
Another fan shared: “Ryan improvised two I love you’s, CRYING. we are so lucky to have him as half of our #robron.”
Yet another fan posted: “WDYM the director told Ryan to do what comes naturally and it’s a distraught Robert screaming into the abyss and repeatedly telling a lifeless Aaron he loves him as he holds his whole world in his arms! ! !”
This follows as Robert remains incarcerated, framed by John for attempting to murder Aaron.
Aaron is still comatose after the fall, and he is the only one who can vouch for his soulmate Robert’s innocence. Upcoming scenes this week will reportedly see John finally exposed, as Aaron awakens from his coma and drops a bombshell.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays
