I stood in a queue for 30 minutes to see if The Wing Society is worth the hype

The Wing Society is one of the most talked about food spots in Belfast and has been for many years since they opened in Common Market.

They have since opened their very first sit-in restaurant on the busy Lisburn Road last week and I headed in to see if the hype and long queues were worth it.

We arrived at around 7.50pm and there were about 15 people in the queue ahead of us which meant we waited around 30 minutes to get in. We were the very last people to be let in and they called last orders so anyone behind us unfortunately didn’t get in at around 8.20pm, so we got very lucky. I will add that the person who was working was very apologetic about the wait time and kept everyone in the loop the entire time.

There was a decent sized menu with loads of different wings and tenders on offer that came with both ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ flavours. There were new additions that were exclusive to this location like ‘cajun corn’ and the ‘Nashville onion rings’.

We ordered three of the hot honey tenders and three of the chipotle honey tenders
I know I shouldn’t play with my food but this cheese pull was brilliant and it tasted even better!

The tenders were absolutely massive, which was a worry of mine when I seen the quantity as three initially doesn’t seem like a lot. The crinkle cut chips were also a stand out for me and were cooked brilliantly, both fluffy and crispy which is always a win for me.

In terms of things I would change, I would like to have seen the tenders coated more in the sauce like the wings I noticed the people sitting beside me had. This would really bring it to the next level for me and heighten the flavours even more.

The cocktail was also a little tart and strong for me but this was a Wednesday night so you could maybe ask me again on a Friday or Saturday and I’d definitely welcome the strong cocktail.

Our total came to £40.71, which was for 2 people and we shared everything we got. I will say that there were sharing platters on offer and the £9 cocktail definitely added to the price so I do think this spot is about average in terms of value for money.

I will also add that this was less than a week since this spot opened with huge queues lining the street every day since. It’s impressive to see them move through these customers with ease and hats off to the staff on this one.

So, would I typically queue for 30 minutes for somewhere? Usually not. However, I did like this spot and can see why it’s a favourite amongst the Belfast foodies and well done to the guys here because managing something like this definitely isn’t easy.

In the interest of fairness and transparency we pay for all the meals and drinks we review. This ensures that we are giving accurate and honest representations of the food and service that we receive. So unless we state otherwise we have paid for the meal ourselves so you can trust our opinions aren’t skewed by a freebie.
