Day one of the 2025 Amgen Irish Open ended in disappointing fashion for Rory McIlroy as he bogeyed two of the final three holes to card a round of one under par. It was looking so much better for the Holywood man midway through his first round but he admitted to getting a little frustrated as his stellar group was put on the clock.
McIlroy believed a huge gallery and the TV cameras played a part in the slow play but the annoyance seemed to have an effect as his approach play let him down in the final stages.
“In all honesty, I felt a little rushed out there for the last 12 holes. I feel like it always happens and I don’t think they use common sense,” said McIlroy. “Of course we’re going to lose ground because we’re going to have to wait on crowds and wait on the two camera crews that are out there.
“And, you know, there’s just a lot more going on with our group than any of the other groups on the course, and sometimes I feel like they have to give us a little bit of leeway and use a bit of common sense.”

The group were out early on Thursday and start at the later time of 1pm on Friday for round two.
McIlroy finished day one on ine under par with the clubhouse leader at -6 near the close of play. Retain is on +5 while Lawrence, a winner on the DP World Tour last weekend shot a staggering +9 to finish dead last in the 155 man field.
