“The fares are absolutely shocking”
Eamonn Holmes has said the cost of travelling from Belfast to London is ‘disgraceful’.
The NI TV presenter was reacting to the latest inflation rate hike on GB News.
The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 3.8% in the 12 months to July 2025, up from 3.6% in the 12 months to June.

Speaking about airfares, North Belfast man Eamonn said: “I have to say, as a commuter between London and Belfast, the fares are absolutely shocking, disgraceful.
“I’ve got to live with it. You could be paying £250 for a single fare, and I could get to Brazil for £250.”
Co host Ellie Costello said: “It’s £200 to £300 for a short haul now, but also petrol and diesel have gone up this month, and food price inflation as well. Items such as coffee, fresh orange juice, meat and chocolate have seen the biggest rises.”
Eamonn then asked: “How do people live? How do people even order deliveries and all those sorts of things, takeaways? It’s just through the roof.”
On the cost of being in London specifically, Eamonn continued: “Prices certainly in London, I tell you what, don’t bother coming to live in London.
“I’m an outsider, I live in London, and I think to myself, compared to Manchester, compared to Leeds, compared to Glasgow, compared to Belfast. London is a complete rip-off in so many ways.”
