The PSNI said they are aware of the footage circulating on social media
Police are appealing for information after a video circulated on social media of a man driving an e-scooter on the entrance to the Westlink dual carriageway.
After being contacted by Belfast Live, Inspector Walker said: “Police are aware of a video circulating on social media.
“Our enquiries in relation to it are ongoing, and we would appeal to anyone who might have any information which could assist us to contact us via 101.
“It is currently illegal to use electric scooters on public roads and in public spaces in Northern Ireland. Electric scooters are not defined within law nor are they approved for on-road use.
“Anyone found using an electric scooter anywhere other than on private property, with the permission of the landowner, should expect to receive a formal warning as a minimum course of action and given the opportunity to walk their scooter home with advice to its further use.
“Repeat offenders may have their e-scooters seized as an uninsured vehicle and may be issued with fixed penalty notices or reported to the Public Prosecution Service.”
Safety concerns around e-scooter usage on main roads have been raised after a man died from his injuries after falling off an electric scooter in a crash on August 9.
Roads Policing Inspector Cherith Adair, from the Police Service Collision Investigation Unit, said at the time: “Sadly, he has since passed away in hospital from these injuries.
“Our officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision, and would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist with our enquiries.”
