The ‘gripping crime thriller’ stars former Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly
A number of Northern Ireland locations were used during filming of a new Channel 4 TV series which is out now.
‘In Flight’ is described as a “gripping crime thriller” which stars former Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly, with the new drama out now.
The series is set across global locations, including Bangkok, Bulgaria, Istanbul, and London, with filming having taken place in Belfast earlier this year, supported by funding from Northern Ireland Screen.

The cast also includes Stuart Martin as Cormac, a key member of the criminal gang; and Ashley Thomas as Dom, a customs officer at a major London airport, plus Bronagh Waugh as Melanie, Harry Cadby as Sonny, Corinna Brown as Kayla and Ambreen Razia as Zara.
The series synopsis reads: “As Jo becomes ensnared in the murky underworld of corruption and hired killers, she is forced to carry out their orders while desperately trying to find a way out.
“She turns to her ex, Dom, for help. However, no matter how far Jo finds herself from her old life, her mission remains the same: to keep her son alive.
“Set against the fast-paced, high-pressure backdrop of international air travel, In Flight follows Jo’s relentless quest to protect her family while entangled in a dangerous criminal syndicate.”
Belfast filming locations
According to Time Out, Ulster University was used as a filming location for several airports. The university was used as the arrivals hall for Sofia Airport, and more modern parts of the campus were used for Bangkok Airport.
The site added that a check-in desk area at Belfast International Airport was used for Istanbul airport.
Time Out, who spoke to producer Brendan Mullin, also report that The Hilton was used as the first class lounge in Bangkok Airport, and disused school Corpus Christi College served as Sofia Prison – and also doubled up as hospital interiors.
Crumlin Road Gaol was also used for Sofia prison, and it’s reported Rosemary Street Masonic Hall doubled as the Sofia courthouse.
Ulster Sports Bar was used as a Sofia pub, and Writer’s Square in the Cathedral Quarter was used as the backstreets of Sofia, Time Out said.
It’s also reported by the site that scenes set in a Thai Market were filmed in a bar in Belfast, and some external shots of streets filmed in Belfast double up as London. Some scenes are set in the city.
All six episodes of In Flight are now available to stream on the Channel 4 website.
