Matthew Tipton has described his brief stint with Dundalk as resembling “a stag do” during a recent podcast interview.

Tipton signed for the Lilywhites in the summer of 2010 following the expiry of his Macclesfield contract, spending the rest of that campaign at Oriel Park.

The ex-Oldham Athletic striker revealed on Undr The Cosh that he accepted a temporary arrangement before heading to the Irish League, where he linked up with former Latics teammate David Miskelly at Portadown.

Tipton concluded his playing days in Northern Ireland, turning out for Linfield, Ballymena United and Warrenpoint Town, where he combined playing with managerial duties. He also managed Portadown and Ards during his coaching career.

The forward explained that whilst discussing his future with Ian Holloway during a period without a club, he made contact with Peter Taylor at Bradford, who directed him towards Foster, reports the Irish Mirror.

Tipton disclosed how Taylor informed him there was “no deal” available at Bradford, but mentioned that “Ian Foster at Dundalk wants to sign you.” He added: “I said, ‘Give him my number’.

“Dundalk phoned and said, ‘There’s a deal here for you’, and it was good money, but it was only until the end of October, because it was summer football.

“So this was mid-July, 12 games left, and he said, ‘We’ll give you a deal on this money until the first of November’.

“So I said, ‘Yeah, I’m happy with that, but I can’t play from November and December because of the international transfer window. If you pay me up to the end of January and I’ll sign’. Fine. So sort the flight out and I’ll be over. I went there and played, and did really well, to be fair.”

Reflecting on his time in Dundalk, he shared: “Honestly, see those three months? It was like a stag do.

“I was there and we played Friday night. I could go for a pint on Friday night, or a few pints, all the lads would be out in the nightclub and stuff, and then you’d get up Saturday and there’d be a warm-down, then I’d get in a car and drive up to Portadown and watch Dave (Miskelly) play, have a few pints there and then go and stay in his house, go out with him on Saturday night, have a few pints on Sunday and then go back for training on Monday morning, every week.”
