The most successful rider in TT history, Michael Dunlop MBE, who boasts 33 victories, will compete in this year’s Formula 1 Classic TT aboard the WizNorton WRS 588cc Norton Rotary.

The Dunlop name and the Norton Rotary are intertwined in TT lore.

Michael’s father, Robert Dunlop, became a household name with the British-made machine during its heyday, clinching podium finishes in both the 1990 Formula 1 TT and 1992 Senior TT, engraving both names into road racing legend.

Its unique sound, innovative engineering, and indomitable spirit made it a firm favourite among fans, and over the years, Norton has had some truly iconic moments at the TT.

Trevor Nation savoured victory on the Rotary, but its crowning moment arguably came in 1992 when Steve Hislop clinched the Senior TT following a race-long duel with Carl Fogarty – a contest still hailed as one of the greatest TT races ever.

Now, Michael is bringing the story full circle – opting to ride the Norton not as the clear contender, but for what it symbolises.

In a year that has seen his own road racing accomplishments acknowledged with an MBE, and one where the Classic TT also honours his uncle Joey Dunlop’s achievements, competing on this machine is a tribute to his family’s legacy and an opportunity to pen a new chapter for both names on the Mountain Course.

The WizNorton team are a regular fixture in the Classic TT paddock, preserving the Rotary’s illustrious legacy year after year.

Adding to the nostalgia, Trevor Nation will also take to the course onboard their Norton machine in the TT Rewind: 80s & 90s Parade Lap.

The Formula 1 Classic TT is scheduled for Wednesday 27 August.
