Coronation Street fans are convinced Steve McDonald has a secret brother who is already living in Weatherfield – and he’s not who you think it is
Coronation Street enthusiasts are certain that Steve McDonald, a long-standing character in Weatherfield, has a secret brother already residing in the town.
Actor Simon Gregson, who has portrayed Steve on Corrie since 1989 when he was just 15 years old, made his debut in Weatherfield alongside his on-screen twin brother Andy McDonald, played by Nicholas Cochrane, and their parents.
The duo were cast as rebellious teenagers causing havoc for their neighbours. Their mother, Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard), was a staple character from 1989 to 2020.
Her husband, Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson), last appeared in 2018. In addition to sons Andy and Steve, the couple had a daughter named Katie, who tragically passed away shortly after birth in 1992.

Andy’s final episode aired in August 2009, when he departed to return to Spain after accepting a teaching position, reports Leicestershire Live.
Former troublemaker Steve has been involved in numerous shady activities over the years, but has evolved into more of a comedic character.
His poor life choices could also account for his multiple marriages on the soap – having tied the knot seven times with five different women.
Despite the departure of Steve’s family over the years, Corrie fans believe he has another brother in Weatherfield, suggesting that the character bears a resemblance to Brian Packham (Peter Gunn).
Brian, the newsagent, first appeared in 2010, and in 2023 he discovered an Italian cousin after undergoing a DNA test. Could Brian indeed be Jim McDonald’s son?
One Reddit user queried: “Steve and Brian separated at birth?”, adding: “Steve is slowly morphing into Brian. How long will it be before you can’t tell them apart.”
Another chimed in: “I’m not gonna lie – when I first started watching the show 5-6 years ago, I thought they were the same person at first.”
A third commented: “Plot twist: Steve, Andy and Brian were all born at Weathy General. Andy and Brian were accidentally switched by Jim when he’d had a snootful, they were.”
“God-forbid it ever gets that far,” another jested.
