Kerry legend Pat Spillane has hit out at Donegal manager Jim McGuinness and “the Ulster gurus” following the Kingdom’s All-Ireland final win last Sunday
Pat Spillane has cast doubt over ‘Ulster GAA gurus’ including Jim McGuinness’ in crucial encounters following Donegal’s All-Ireland final loss to Kerry.
The Kingdom claimed the Sam Maguire for a 39th time last Sunday as they emerged victorious by 1-26 to 0-19 at Croke Park. It was a contest that Kerry controlled throughout and the outcome was rarely in question.
Spillane has argued McGuinness’ performance in significant fixtures “is not good” and suggested the Donegal boss “had a bad day at the office” against Kerry.
“I look through all Jimmy’s teams. He has a great game plan and has the players choreographed to that process,” Spillane told the Indo GAA Podcast. “But you look through all Jimmy’s big matches.
“In the cold light of day, Jimmy talked about his players and the errors by his players. Jimmy had a bad day at the office.”
He continued: “When you look at the analysis, Jimmy’s track record in big matches is not good.”
Spillane also targeted “the Ulster gurus”, who offer Kerry “feint praise”, telling them: “We’re still at the top.”
He added: “I hear the Ulster GAA gurus, from the time of Joe Lennon in the 1960s, they have been telling us once they’re winning games they’re preaching to us that they’re miles ahead, that Kerry is traditional, backwards, and not evolving. Guess what, we’re still at the top.”
