This enchanting European coastal town is tipped as a must-visit location that’s still under the radar for many. Nestled south of Bordeaux on the French coast, Arcachon Bay is a jewel in Pays de Buch, flanked by the Côte d’Argent and the Côte des Landes in the Aquitaine region.
It boasts a mix of spectacular views, pristine beaches, and coastal elegance. Arcachon is also renowned for its exquisite oysters, celebrated with an Oyster Festival every summer.
The town is brimming with outdoor pursuits, from jet skiing and kayaking to cycling or zipping around on an electric scooter. It’s dotted with charming independent boutiques and delightful cafes.
Visitors are particularly drawn to the Dune du Pilat, Europe’s highest sand dune. London-based travel blogger Anna was captivated by her visit to this spot.
In her TikTok video, Anna captures the essence of the town’s allure. She said: “A French coastal town you probably haven’t heard of…but you absolutely have to add to your bucket list…Arcachon.”
She continued: “This is such a charming town.”
Commenting on the clip, one person said: “Going in May, we stayed there last year and loved it! PS you can’t take dogs on the beach.
” I was there a few years ago and it is sooo pretty,” chimed in yet another admirer.
“Adding to my list to visit,” declared one determined traveller. “I was there in summer, insanely beautiful,” gushed another previous visitor.
“If you’re going, stop at the ‘Dune du pilat’. It’s something special,” recommended another seasoned explorer. One sentimental traveller penned: “My favourite place in the entire world, oh how I miss it so much.
“Never heard of it before but now we want to visit,” confessed another intrigued viewer.
How to get to Arcachon
To get to Arcachon, you catch a flight to Bordeaux Airport. The journey from there takes roughly one hour by car to reach Arcachon.
Rail connections from the airport are also available, taking approximately an hour and a half.
