The chain has warned customers not to eat the foods as they could contain pieces of blue plastic and pose a risk to customers

A major retailer has recalled two popular food products amid concerns they could be a risk to customers. Dunnes Stores says the product could contain pieces of blue plastic along with large pieces of natural stalk and bark, which could pose a choking hazard.

It has told shoppers who have bought two of its jars of dried herbs to return them to store for a full refund. In a recall notice the Food Standards Agency says: “Dunnes Stores is recalling Dunnes Stores Sage and Dunnes Stores Herbes de Provence because they may contain pieces of blue plastic and large pieces of natural stalk and bark, which could pose a choking hazard.”

It added the issue could make the herbs “unsafe to eat.” It also had advice for customers saying: “If you have bought the above products, do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.”

It set out details of the affected products. They are only sold in Northern Ireland, according to the FSA notice.
