Tom Cullen stars in Channel 4’s gripping new drama Trespasses alongside Lola Petticrew and Gillian Anderson, which is filmed in Belfast. The series, adapted from Louise Kennedy’s novel, has been praised as “one of the best novel adaptations,” by audiences since its debut on Sunday, November 9.
Set during the Troubles, Trespasses tells a forbidden love story, with Tom, recognised for his work in Downton Abbey and The Gold, playing Michael, a barrister who becomes romantically involved with Cushla, portrayed by Lola.
Tom revealed it was the “script and the characters,” that drew him to the part. Speaking about why audiences should tune in to Trespasses, he said: “To put it simply, because it’s bloody great! I’m incredibly proud of it. A powerful, emotional love story about defiance and what it means to live in the face of adversity.”

Tom is a 40 year old actor and filmmaker from Wales.

Tom gained recognition following his performance in Andrew Haigh’s The Weekend in 2011, which earned him the British Independent Film Award for Best Newcomer.
He has since taken on prominent parts in numerous television productions, including Black Mirror, Downton Abbey, where he played Anthony Gillingham, The Five, Knightfall and Becoming Elizabeth, in which he portrayed Thomas Seymour. More recently, Tom has appeared in Insomnia alongside Vicky McClure, Ar y Ffin, and The Gold, in which he portrayed John Palmer.
He’s currently featuring in Channel 4’s Trespasses and is scheduled to join the cast of ITV’s upcoming drama The Party with fellow Welsh star Luke Evans, as well as House of the Dragon in 2026.
Tom also penned and helmed the 2019 film Pink Wall, shot in the Elan Valley in Powys.

Tom shares two children with his partner, actress and musician Alison Sudol, recognised for portraying Queenie Goldstein in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
Showing her support as Trespasses premiered, Alison posted on Instagram: “So proud of this brilliant, kind, loving human whose extraordinary soul shines through those delicious crinkly eyes in everything he does lighting up the screen bringing the love with every fiber of his beautiful heart. Watch Trespasses tonight on Channel 4.”
She continued: “Lola Petticrew and Gillian Anderson absolutely stunning performances.”
Speaking to Radio Times magazine in August 2025 about balancing his career with family responsibilities, Tom shared: “Before, I could film in Jordan or live in Prague for a year, and that was really exciting, but the focus shifts. It’s about making choices for my family now.
“I’m about to shoot a film in North Wales and they’re coming with me. I love being a father. It’s the most important part of my life – I don’t want to miss a second!”.
