Nigerian-born, Vancouver-based artist Sadé Awele has released her new single, ‘These Feet’. The track marks her second release of the year and her first new music of 2025.
Awele is known for blending Afrosoul, Afropop, and R&B and on ‘These Feet’, she captures a warming soundscape given an interesting flare by the angular chord progression. Bringing a commercial flare whilst combining R&B melodies with soulful vocals, the track explores themes of personal freedom, resilience, and self-expression over it’s prominent guitars, layered synths and thick central bass and drums.
Talking about the single, Awele explained: “It first started in my living room with my guitar. I was deep in thought about life and how we can go through extreme highs and lows, and somehow manage to balance it all and keep moving forward. It got me thinking about how beauty can be intertwined with struggle, and I wanted to express that in a song what it means to own uncertainty, and accepting that some people will always judge what they don’t understand. Then came Alvin, David, Linaldo, Rennan, Chersea, and we created an alternative R&B bop!”
Awele has been recognized as R&B Artist of the Year at the 2024 Western Canadian Music Awards. She has performed at events including Road to the Junos and festivals across Canada and Europe.
