This award-winning Indian restaurant in Belfast is a treat worth paying for

Winning the Oscars of the curry industry is a big deal so we just had to try it out!

Nu Delhi has been a long-standing favourite in Belfast but it seems the rest of the UK has taken note. It has recently won ‘champion of champions’ at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards, which is also known as the Oscars of the curry industry.

With this title being bestowed on a restaurant on our doorstep I knew I had to head in and try it out. I actually cannot believe it’s taken me this long to eat here.

We decided to head in on a Wednesday, without a booking might I add, we were met immediately by very friendly staff. We got lucky and they had a table for us in about 10 minutes but I definitely recommend booking because this restaurant was packed.

You are met with a moody ambience when you get into Nu Delhi and the awards it has previously won lined the wall. The place was buzzing with staff and diners alike which was great to see.

What we ordered:

Starters: Poppadoms with a chutney board along with onion bhajis and lamb samosas.

Mains: We shared a chicken korma. I decided to go for the most popular curry in the UK to really put the recent award to the test.

Sides: Pilau rice, peshwari naan and masala chips.

Drinks: A bottle of magners and a soft drink.

What we liked:

I can’t start anywhere else other than the service here. We were checked on repeatedly even during our wait for the table, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and were incredibly friendly even though it was very busy.

The onion bhajis were some of the best that I’ve ever had. They absolutely nailed those and the other starters were brilliant too but the bhajis were definitely the stand out part of it.

The sides here were absolutely spot on too. The peshwari naan was cooked brilliantly and had the perfect level of sweetness from the coconut in it which went perfectly with the korma.

Masala chips were something I’d never heard of before and I got them as a bit of an experiment, I would never usually order chips with an Indian meal. They were cooked perfectly, the right side of crispy and fluffy, the seasoning was brilliant. Definitely worth getting these for the table if you’re in.

Before I went in I googled what the most popular curry was to really give this place a fair shot and see if they get the classics right. I can confirm that they absolutely did, it was fantastic and full of flavour. It was definitely one of the best kormas that I’ve ever had. The portion sizes were also great and this was definitely enough to share between 2 people along with the few sides that we got.

What we didn’t like/would change:

Although they tasted great and I think they’re a staple for any Indian meal, we had to order the poppadoms here and they didn’t come as standard with your meal. This is probably just me being picky and a little bit greedy but I’ve typically got these at the start of the meal.

Cost: Everything we ordered came to £60.71. We did share a main so this is a little bit on the expensive side but this restaurant has very high quality food and service so you are definitely get what you are paying for here. This in my opinion is a treat worth paying for.

I can absolutely see why Nu Delhi has a wall full of awards, they clearly work hard to keep standards high here and it tells in both fantastic food and even better service. It’s a staple in the heart of Belfast that I absolutely loved and has now quickly become a place that I will keep coming back to because it quickly rose to the top as my favourite Indian restaurant in Belfast.

In the interest of fairness and transparency we pay for all the meals and drinks we review. This ensures that we are giving accurate and honest representations of the food and service that we receive. So unless we state otherwise we have paid for the meal ourselves so you can trust our opinions aren’t skewed by a freebie.
