“For people aged 35-50, hoping to find love and loads of laughs, blending stand-up, interactive games and the chance, if you’re brave enough, to share dating disasters”

A ‘one-of-a-kind’ comedy night taking place in Belfast for people aged 35-50 hoping to find love has been announced.

It’s set to feature three hours of ‘comedy, connection and possible chemistry’. It will take place on Thursday, October 9, at Accidental Theatre, from 7.30pm.

Organisers said: “Accidental Theatre presents Stand-Up for Singles, a one-of-a-kind comedy night for people aged 35-50, hoping to find love and loads of laughs, blending stand-up, interactive games and the chance, if you’re brave enough, to share dating disasters in a safe, hilarious space (strictly optional!).

“Tickets are £20 per person (Man, Woman or “Wingperson” options available) with a strong commitment to gender balance. BYOB is welcome, and an unofficial after-party will follow at nearby Lavery’s.”

The event will feature live sets from Bronagh Diamond, and ‘sharp-witted musical comedy’ from Emer Maguire, with audience mixer games, and a spotlight for anyone willing to have their worst (or funniest) dating disaster retold by compère Luke McGibbon – with a prize for the bravest storyteller.

The idea came from Belfast-based stylist Nuala McMenamin, whose friend recently suggested speed dating. Being a comedy fan, Nuala thought mixing comedy and dating was potentially a good way to meet someone new.

She said: “If you’re both into comedy then surely that’s a pretty good foundation for a relationship, and if you don’t meet ‘the one’ or even someone you’ll still have a great night out with plenty of laughs.”

A statement added: “Having completed a comedy course in 2024 run by theatre practitioner and occasional stand-up comedian Tory Gillespie, Nuala knew Tory would be the perfect person to co-create Stand-Up for Singles.”

Nuala added: “Tory was on board as soon as she heard about it, after all she met her husband Nick, 18 years ago at a comedy gig so fully understands the power of laughter and love”.

You can book via Accidental Theatre box office or online.
