Stellantis is recalling 72,000 cars in the UK to fix an issue where loosened nuts on a fuel pipe could cause an engine fire. A total of 28 models are being recalled
A major car manufacturer has issued a recall for 72,000 vehicles in the UK due to a fire risk. The issue arises from loosened nuts on a fuel pipe that could potentially cause an engine fire.
The recall affects vehicles from Alfa Romeo, Citroen, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Peugeot and Vauxhall manufactured between 2023 and 2025, with 28 models being recalled.
According to Auto Express, there have been 11 reported cases of cars catching fire in France. Owners of the affected vehicles are being urged to book their cars in for a fix as soon as possible.
The repair should only take about 30 minutes. Stellantis has advised drivers to be vigilant for any unusual fuel smells or dashboard warning lights that could indicate the problem.
A spokesperson for Stellantis encouraged customers to “immediately make an appointment” at their local dealership to rectify the issue, reports Birmingham Live.
They further explained: “Vehicles equipped with the 1.2-turbo petrol engine may face a fuel leakage at the high-pressure pipe between the high-pressure pump and the rail due to loosened nuts.
“This can potentially lead to higher fuel consumption and, in a worst-case scenario, to occurrences of fire in the engine.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Citroen stated that the brand was “fully engaged” in fixing as many impacted vehicles as possible.
It added: “For each and every customer, we discuss options to support mobility, recognising that every driver has specific requirements. These options include replacement airbags at a dealership or at home, courtesy car, support for other mobility options and recovery.”
Sue Davies, Which? head of consumer protection policy, said: “Stellantis must urgently confirm it will pay compensation for alternative transport as well as offer practical solutions such as offering at-home repairs or towing affected cars to garages. If not, many people will see no alternative but to continue driving cars that are potentially very dangerous.
“The Government needs to step in and hold them to account to ensure UK consumers have much greater clarity of what they need to do and what they are entitled to – and are never left in this position again”.
