Two passengers were removed from a Jet2 flight after police were called to reports of a ‘disturbance’ on board – with witnesses saying the men downed a bottle of vodka
Two passengers were escorted off a plane by police at Leeds Bradford Airport after becoming “uncontrollable” due to excessive vodka consumption, according to onlookers.
Ian Boyle found himself amidst a disturbance shortly after boarding his flight to Chania International Airport in Greece on Thursday (July 24), which was subsequently delayed.
Witness Ian reported that the trouble started when two mates began swigging from a duty-free vodka bottle during the hold-up.
Footage captured the moment officers stepped onto the aircraft to remove the rowdy duo. The pair were later spotted being marched away from the scene, flanked by several police officers each.
Ian recounted: “The airline staff were doing their best but the drunk guy just overwhelmed them.”
He added: “The police had to intervene because the man was so drunk he was uncontrollable.”
Ian also revealed: “Apparently, the two friends brought a duty-free bottle of vodka on board and thought it was okay to drink it while we were delayed.”
Describing the severity of the incident, he said: “It was quite a serious altercation.”
Ian expressed concern for the younger passengers, saying: “There were kids on board who may never want to fly again.”
West Yorkshire Police confirmed the incident, stating: “On 24 July, police received a request for assistance following a report of a disturbance at Leeds Bradford Airport.”
They continued: “Officers attended and arrested two males on suspicion of affray.”
The statement concluded with: “Both were later bailed pending further enquiries.”
A spokesperson for Jet2 confirmed: “We can confirm that two disruptive passengers have been banned from flying with us, following their appalling behaviour which led to police having to offload them.
“As a family friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive passenger behaviour.”
