EastEnders fans were all left saying the same thing as bosses decided to make a last minute following England’s Lionesses’ Euros triumph

EastEnders viewers were all singing the same tune as showrunners decided to make a last-minute change following England’s Euros victory.

Cast members Heather Peace and Thomas Law, who portray Eve Panesar-Unwin and Peter Beale, recorded a special scene for Monday’s (July 28) episode.

The soap was broadcast the day after the Lionesses’ triumph over Spain in a nail-biting penalty shootout in Switzerland, with Chloe Kelly netting the decisive penalty.

Peter and Eve were seen discussing Kelly’s penalty, leaving viewers at home impressed.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan wrote: “Loved this last minute scene following the Lionesses win last night. Eve was the perfect character for this scene.. OBSESSED with her humour # EastEnders #Sukeve.”, reports OK!.

Another chimed in: “Of course they had to mention the football, in a quick scene that they recorded this afternoon probably!”.

A third person exclaimed: “Yes! @heatherpeace what time this morning did #EastEnders film that magnificent #Lionessess scene.”

A fourth concurred: “I loved the inserted scene in today’s #eastenders for the Lionesses victory.”

Eastenders weren’t the only soap to make last-minute alterations as Emmerdale also aired scenes discussing England’s win.

In the scene, Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) found a hungover Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) taking down the decorations in the pub as they reminisced about the match and predicted that England will continue winning tournaments in the future.

The moment was reportedly a last-minute addition to the episode to reflect the result of the match and the jubilant feeling following the game.

Speaking about the decision, Emmerdale’s producer Laura Shaw said: “With the nation getting behind the Lionesses, we knew the fictional characters in Emmerdale would’ve been doing just the same, so it felt right and proper that we should reflect this result on the show.”

England are set to begin their celebrations back in the UK with a reception at Downing Street following their dramatic penalty shootout victory in the Euro 2025 final.

The reception on Monday is due to be hosted by deputy prime minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock, as the prime minister said the team had “once again captured the hearts of the nation”.

England retained their European title after defeating Spain 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in Basel, Switzerland, on Sunday (July 27).

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and available to stream on BBC iPlayer from 6am
