Around 100 homes in the Areema Drive area were impacted by the security alert
A “viable pipe bomb” was found during a security alert in Dunmurry on Friday.
Around 100 homes were evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious object in the Areema Drive area of West Belfast at around 12.40pm on Friday, November 28.
Officers put cordons in place with ammunition technical officers later attending the scene and examining the object, which was later declared to be a viable pipe bomb. This was then made safe.

Police have thanked members of the public for their cooperation during the security alert which was resolved at around midnight.
The Duty Inspector said: “Our officers attended the scene, along with ammunition technical officers, who examined the device. It was discovered to be a viable pipe bomb and was subsequently made safe.
“Neighbouring properties were evacuated as our enquiries were conducted and the device was taken away for further examination. “We appreciate that people were out of their homes for most of Friday as this public safety operation was conducted and we thank people for their patience during this time. “Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with any information which might assist us to contact 101, quoting reference number 690 of 28/11/25. “You can also submit a report or information online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.”
