Lloyd Cole is returning to Australia in March 2026 — and this time, he’s plugging back in. The British singer-songwriter will take to stages across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart with a string of solo electric performances that trace his forty-year career, from Rattlesnakes through to 2023’s On Pain.
Cole’s live shows in recent years have been predominantly acoustic, refined and understated. But for this tour, he’s swapping the folk troubadour’s stillness for the hum of a Telecaster and the warmth of a Princeton amp. “I find myself approaching the end of my career, and wanting to be seen more as just a singer who wrote a body of work,” Cole explains. “So I’m back with my Telecaster, my Princeton amp, and my solo show is now electric.”
The shift feels symbolic. Since the release of his 12th solo album On Pain, Cole has entered a quietly daring late chapter. That record earned widespread acclaim — MOJO called it “a richly detailed synth-pop LP of admirable sophistication”, while Uncut praised its “raw essence” and “erudite melodies”. At 62, Cole’s writing continues to evolve, balancing the sharp wit and literary phrasing that first defined his work with a more introspective and experimental sensibility.
Across his 17 studio albums — including three with The Commotions, one with The Negatives, and collaborations with ambient pioneer Hans-Joachim Roedelius — Cole has never been one to chase nostalgia. Yet this tour promises to honour the full sweep of his catalogue: from the jangling intelligence of Rattlesnakes to the electronic minimalism of On Pain.
