Michael Conlan is determined to fight only on the biggest stages and for the biggest prizes as he enters the latest chapter of his career.
The 33-year-old’s dwindling world championship dreams were revived on Friday night with a stunning fourth round KO victory over Jack Bateson at the 3Arena.
In his first fight in Dublin as a professional, Conlan rolled back the years to silence the naysayers and deliver a performance that could see him catapulted into world title contention.
Regardless of who he fights and what he fights for, Conlan is clear on where he is wants his future fights to take place.
On his next fights, Conlan said “It’s either to be here in Dublin or MSG.”
“Of course (I love fighting in Belfast), but to be honest, I want to bring big time boxing back to Dublin.
“I think it’s been starved of it for a very long time.
“With Katie coming here… the big shows have been sporadic.
“They haven’t been consistent, but I will make it a consistent thing.”
So the where is decided, but as for the who and when, that remains up in the air.
“When would I like to be out again? Possibly the end of the year but if not then St Paddy’s Day. One of the two, and St Paddy’s Day in the 3Arena, St Paddy’s Day in MSG, both make major sense.”
And while names like Josh Warrington and a rematch with Leigh Wood have been mentioned, Conlan still has ambitions of becoming world champion and he believes that Friday’s performance proves it’s still a possibility.
“I know what I want. I still believe I can be world champion and I think tonight I showed glimpses of that.
“That’s what I want, and If that’s not a possibility, then an eliminator, a final eliminator.
“And if that’s not a possibility, then the biggest fights and the biggest money possible.”
