Coleraine boss Ruaidhri Higgins has given an honest response when asked about the postponement of his side’s recent league game against Linfield.

The Bannsiders were left without a game last weekend as last Sunday’s clash at The Showgrounds was called off at the request of the Blues due to them playing the second leg of their Conference League play-off against Shelbourne on the Thursday before.

While Higgins would have been keen for the game to go ahead as planned, he admitted it “wasn’t a disaster” as several members of his squad were nursing injuries.

“Actually, I wasn’t too disappointed about the postponement because we were nursing a few injuries,” said the Coleraine boss.

“Honestly, we wanted the game to go ahead but it certainly wasn’t a disaster from our end.

“We had a few knocks. We still have a couple of niggles and one or two are slight doubts but we’ll see how the next 24, 48 hours go.

“We’re just looking forward now to the Crusaders game and getting back on the horse and trying to get a big three points because if we approach the game in the right manner, which I expect us to do, we can go to Seaview and win the game.

“That’s what we expect. We want to go there and try to get another three points on the board.”

The Bannsiders are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Crusaders looking to maintain the pressure on league leaders Glentoran.

While many are predicting Coleraine to be challenging come the end of the season, Higgins said his players focus on the job in hand and don’t get caught up in the outside noise.

“I think other people get caught up in stuff. Players come in and they train. Footballers are in such a privileged position, they make a living out of playing football,” he said.

“You probably don’t appreciate it as much when you’re in it and you’re playing but when you come out of it, you realise it’s the best job in the world and all our players want to be here and we all want to be successful.

“If there’s expectation, then brilliant because that’s what we’re in the game for. We want to be successful.

“How quickly can that happen? We’ll see but we’ve made a good start and hopefully we can continue that on Saturday.”
