Melbourne quartet The Belair Lip Bombs are stepping into their biggest chapter yet, announcing details of their new album Again (out October 31 via Third Man Records) alongside the release of second single ‘Don’t Let Them Tell You (It’s Fair)’. The record marks the first ever Australian release on Jack White’s storied label.

Following the success of lead single ‘Hey You’—currently the third most played track on triple j and described by PAPERas “sassy and cagey, animated by fast, totally windswept production”—the new cut shifts gears into mid-tempo territory. Built on a Keith Richards-inspired riff, ‘Don’t Let Them Tell You (It’s Fair)’ urges listeners to stand firm. “It’s about not letting anyone walk all over you,” says vocalist Maisie Everett. “Have confidence in what you’re doing and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
Everett credits a conversation with Alex Lahey as part of the song’s inspiration: “She told me, ‘You have to make your own luck.’ That really stuck with me. The hard work only works if you believe in yourself at the same time.”
Again arrives as the Belair Lip Bombs’ most polished work yet, a “yearn-core” blend of fuzzy guitar hooks, cathartic vocals and rhythm-forward power-pop. Produced by the band with Nao Anzai (The Teskey Brothers) and Joe White(Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever), the album spans 10 tracks and introduces the Melbourne band to an international stage.
It’s a natural progression for a group that started out in Frankston’s DIY venue Singing Bird Studio, opening for the likes of Ladyhawke, Spacey Jane, Slowly Slowly and Tired Lion, before carving out their own lane with an EP and follow-up mini-release. Now, with their first-ever North American tour underway alongside Spacey Jane (many dates already sold out) and a European headline run to follow, The Belair Lip Bombs’ long game is paying off.
