Emmerdale viewers have been left fuming with Mackenzie Boyd after he failed to take the opportunity to leave a voice message for Charity Dingle

Emmerdale has broadcasted more distressing scenes for Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), as it seems John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has no plans to release him from his captivity in a bunker.

In recent episodes of the ITV soap, John assaulted Mack after he deduced that John was responsible for Nate Robinson’s (Jurrell Carter) murder last year and disposed of his body in a lake.

In an attempt to prevent Mack from escaping, a tense confrontation ensued in the woods, where John shot Mack with an arrow before seemingly killing him with a rock.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, it was disclosed that a severely injured Mack is actually alive and being held prisoner by murderer John in a hidden underground bunker in the woods.

During Wednesday’s episode (September 3), Mack seemed to be struggling with his injury nearly two weeks after the attack, and he made desperate attempts to call for help, reports the Daily Star.

Meanwhile, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and husband John visited The Woolpack, where they informed Chas (Lucy Pargeter) about their plans to leave the village and relocate to John’s secluded cottage in the countryside.

Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) expressed her concerns that something terrible had happened to her husband Mack as he failed to make contact following a planned trip to London. This evidently instilled fear in John, who returned to the bunker to find Mack in pain.

John informed Mack that he required him to record voice messages to reassure Charity and his sister, Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), that he wouldn’t be returning home.

Mack continuously rejected John’s requests, prompting the deranged paramedic to take control of the situation himself.

John processed some of Mack’s previous voice recordings through AI technology and managed to fabricate a false message about ending his marriage to Charity and never coming back to Emmerdale.

The message was dispatched to Charity moments later, leaving her utterly devastated.

Content with his work, John readied himself to craft another message for Moira, but then stumbled upon quite the revelation. Mackenzie’s phone contained a voice note from Aaron.

He enquired about his friend, but then discussed Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and their intimate encounter. Fury swept over John’s expression as he listened to his husband’s admission.

Mack had referenced Robert and Aaron’s affair the previous day, but given that John is keeping him captive, there was every chance he was simply fabricating the story.

“I can’t trust anyone,” John muttered as his anger started to escalate.

As the episode concluded, he plotted his subsequent action.

Nevertheless, Emmerdale fans have been left incensed with Mack for failing to seize the chance to leave Charity a voice message and subtly suggest that he is in danger in hopes of being saved.

Taking to Reddit, one person wrote: “The man sounds like he’s on his literal deathbed! But he needs a miracle to happen because we absolutely need Mack to survive this! Maybe he should have done the voice note and then possibly, maybe, Charity could have heard something in his voice letting her know that he’s in trouble?”.

A second added: “Absolutely loved Mack’s sass, but if I were him, I’d use the voice message to convey some kind of hidden message, like saying something blatantly untrue that John wouldn’t know, but Charity would.

“Something like ‘and I just realised that through all of this chaos we forgot the anniversary of the death of our baby. We never would’ve forgotten that if things weren’t so stressful’. Then maybe she’ll go “Wait what? Something’s off here’.”

A third chimed in: “I thought he was going to do that. But then I thought…he might actually have a point, even if he did, that message would have marked the end of his life. But then…John still didn’t kill him.”

“Exactly this! I love him for fighting back but he should have played it smarter”, added another.
