Donald Trump has not been seen in public for three days, leading to a surge in online searches for the phrase “Trump is dead” – but there is no evidence to suggest the US President has died

The phrase “Trump is dead” has seen a significant increase in usage on social media, despite the almost certain falsity of the rumours. Donald Trump has not been seen in public for three days, leading to the phrase “Trump is dead” dominating Twitter and Facebook.

This follows recent health concerns raised by photographs showing the US President with what appears to be a bruise on his hand. The current rumours seem to have been stoked by comments from Trump’s own Vice President JD Vance, as well as Simpsons creator Matt Groening.

Since assuming office, there have been several instances when the 79 year old president has vanished from public view. Many of those currently spreading the conspiracy on social media point to Trump having no scheduled events this weekend – but that is perfectly normal for a president, according to Mirror UK. Trump has also been active on Truth Social since he was last seen in public.

JD Vance’s ‘terrible tragedy’ comments

On August 27, Vance was questioned about whether he would be ready to step into Trump’s shoes should a “terrible tragedy” occur. In an interview with USA Today, Vance emphasised that the Commander-in-Chief was in excellent condition, but conceded that the possibility could not be dismissed, reports the Irish Mirror.

“He’s the last person making phone calls at night, and he’s the first person who wakes up and the first person making phone calls in the morning,” Vance stated.

“Yes, terrible tragedies happen. But I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people. And if, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days.”

Trump’s health concerns

Trump has also encountered health worries of late. In July, the White House acknowledged he suffers from a vein condition called chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), which leads to leg swelling.

This condition results in heightened pressure within veins and may cause swelling alongside ulcers, though it’s not considered life-threatening.

Prior to Trump’s condition being revealed through official means, images circulated on social media displaying his swollen legs and triggered speculation regarding his health status.

Earlier this week, what looked like bruising was once more observed on the president’s hand whilst he signed an executive order.

This followed him being seen with a bruised hand in a golf video, whilst another photograph at a separate event seemed to display thick makeup covering his hand. Medical professionals suggest the bruising might be linked to recent cannula insertion – indicating the president may have received IV treatment for an undisclosed condition.

Simpson’s prediction

In July, Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, was questioned about the future of the show, which has been running for 36 seasons. Speaking to Variety, he stated there was “no end in sight” for the series, but suggested its conclusion might be tied to the demise of a US President.

“No, there’s no end in sight. We’re going to keep going. We’re going to go until somebody dies,” Groening declared. He then added: “When you-know-who dies, The Simpsons predicts that there will be dancing in the streets. Except President (J.D.) Vance will ban dancing.”

Groening’s remarks caused quite a stir on social media, given the show’s reputation for seemingly predicting real-world events. Some fans are convinced that The Simpsons foresaw Trump’s ascent to power as far back as 2000.

Trump’s Truth Social posts

Despite his recent absence from public view, Trump continues to make his opinions known via his Truth Social platform. Yesterday, he posted a lengthy message about the ongoing trade tariff situation, stating “ALL TARIFFS ARE STILL IN EFFECT!” after lambasting the “Highly Partisan Appeals Court” for declaring most of them illegal.

Trump warned that if tariffs were rescinded, it would “literally destroy the United States of America”.

On the same day, he also commented on the redrawing of a congressional map in Missouri, shared images purporting to show his economy was “booming”, and posted a tribute to the contentious WWE wrestler Hulk Hogan.
