Coronation Street actress Tanisha Gorey has opened up about her character Asha’s devastation following her twin brother’s departure from Weatherfield, whilst hinting at what lies ahead for Asha.

Viewers witnessed Aadi (portrayed by Adam Hussain) leave Coronation Street permanently in recent scenes after choosing to make a fresh beginning in India following considerable turmoil.

Aadi had found himself embroiled in significant trouble over the past few months, from plunging the family enterprise into thousands of pounds of debt to his role in the gathering that resulted in Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) difficulties.

Matters reached breaking point when Aadi made confessions to both Lauren and his father Dev (Jimmi Harkishin), which eventually resulted in his detention.

He subsequently chose to begin anew in India with hopes of securing a clean slate. Nevertheless, his choice means he’s abandoned twin sister Asha in Weatherfield.

When questioned about Asha’s feelings regarding her twin’s exit, performer Tanisha confessed: “She’s absolutely distraught about Aadi leaving, they aren’t just twins but they are also best friends.”

She continued by disclosing that whilst the siblings share a “love/hate relationship”, they remain ultimate best mates and Asha feels “terrified” as Aadi represents the sole person “she can really trust”.

During Aadi’s absence, Tanisha disclosed that Asha might seek comfort from Nina (Mollie Gallagher) despite the duo’s romantic past.

“But I don’t think Asha will want to talk about this to anyone because she feels so alone and doesn’t want to admit that to anyone,” she went on to admit to Metro.

Aadi’s departure forms part of a broader storyline centring on Asha’s mental health battles, which will see her take the spotlight in a special episode in the coming weeks, reports Leicestershire Live.

Audiences will witness Asha tragically experiencing a panic attack, with the circumstances leading to it subsequently revealed through a flashback.

Following the announcement of details surrounding her character’s current plot, Tanisha commented: “I feel honoured to be trusted with a storyline of this scale and significance. Stepping into the shoes of a trainee paramedic and exploring the highs, lows, and emotional challenges of their work has been both moving and eye-opening.

“It’s a role that carries a huge responsibility, and I hope we’ve done justice to the reality so many face. If this story reaches even one person, sparks a conversation, or offers a moment of understanding, then it’s served its purpose.”

Coronation Street airs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 at 8pm.
