Coronation Street fans have been left confused as to why the soap was pulled off air after an interrupted week on the cobbles and it’s safe to say they’re not happy
Coronation Street viewers have been left scratching their heads after the beloved soap was axed from the airwaves once more in yet another scheduling upheaval.
The enduring ITV drama typically follows a consistent weekly pattern, broadcasting hour-long instalments on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.
Yet this week has witnessed a significantly disrupted timetable as Coronation Street was shifted from its customary Wednesday (August 27) position.
Rather than its usual slot, the show transmitted from 8pm to 9pm on Monday evening (August 25), Tuesday evening (August 26) and will similarly broadcast on Friday (August 29) night in the identical time period.
The scheduling disruption stems from ITV’s decision to screen live Carabao Cup coverage on Wednesday, featuring the clash between Grimsby Town and Manchester United, reports the Daily Star.
Viewers were understandably perplexed on Wednesday when attempting to locate the episode typically made available early on ITVX.
On a Coronation Street Facebook enthusiast group, one viewer posted: “Why isn’t Corrie on tonight? Can’t find tonight’s episode on ITVX.”
Another contributor responded: “It’s not on because of the football.” A third member commented: “Football sadly, I wish football would go on another channel.” Someone else clarified: “It was on last night.” A fifth viewer expressed frustration: “Bloody football!”.
The week has delivered intense drama in Weatherfield for numerous characters, particularly trainee paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey). On Monday, the programme presented a special instalment depicting the distressing and devastating experiences Asha faced during her working shift.
In addition to dealing with a death and caring for an injured elderly resident, Asha was also subjected to a horrendous racist attack. This shift had a profound effect on Asha, leading her to experience panic attacks and resort to alcohol.
“It feels like everything is hitting her from every angle and she doesn’t know how to cope with it all,” actress Tanisha Gorey previously told Metro about the storyline.
She further stated: “She feels really alone while battling everything and there’s a series of events that take place during a horrific shift which ultimately leads her to experiencing a panic attack.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
