A young boy has been fatally injured following an accident in Co Donegal on Friday night.
The child, understood to be just nine years old, died following an incident involving machinery outside the town of Dungloe.
The tragedy has shocked the local community where the boy’s family are well-known in the locality.
Gardai and the emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident last night. However, it has been confirmed that the child suffered fatal injuries and passed away at the scene.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed a child passed away following the tragedy.
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said: “Gardaí and emergency services responded to a fatal incident at a premises in Dungloe, Co Donegal yesterday evening, Friday 22nd August 2025.
“A male child was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“His body was removed to Letterkenny University Hospital and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
“The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have been notified and will attend the scene.
“A file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.”
