Pete Murray has released a new single, Amy, the latest preview of his forthcoming eighth studio album Longing, due out 3 October. It follows Home To Me, a track co-written in Nashville with Phil Barton and produced by Garrett Kato.
Murray’s new material arrives as he nears the end of his extensive 56-date solo acoustic tour across Australia, which began in May and wraps in September. The stripped-back shows — his first of their kind — have seen him revisit classics from across his career while debuting new material in intimate settings.
Amy, recorded with Luke Palmer (Boo Seeka, Dead Letter Circus), shifts Murray into fresh territory, pairing his acoustic foundations with keys, synth bass and a hypnotic backbeat. Longing will be his first independent release in more than 20 years, following 2017’s Camacho and the career-defining Feeler (2003), which produced enduring singles like So Beautiful and Better Days.
In addition to the tour, Murray has announced three New South Wales album launch shows in October, alongside a fan competition offering a trip to Byron Bay and VIP tickets to the Brunswick Heads Hotel launch.
With over 1.2 million album sales, multiple ARIA chart-toppers and two decades of steady output, Murray continues to balance old favourites with new work that extends his folk-rock songwriting into fresh directions.
