Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd exchanged vows in a star-studded affair in Manchester last weekend, but the soap star has revealed the “catastrophe” that took place just days before
Coronation Street legend Jack P Shepherd has revealed how “catastrophe” ensued in the lead up to his wedding day with Hanni Treweek last weekend (Saturday, July 26).
Speaking about the run-up to his wedding day, Jack told his Corrie co-star Ben Price and former colleague Colson Smith how the build-up to the big day had been “chaotic” before admitting that a “catastrophe” had also occurred after an incident involving his mother-in-law to be.
Recalling how the incident began to unfold, he told his On The Sofa podcast co-hosts: “So she rings me and she’s like: ‘We’ve had a problem.’ I’m like, ugh. So I’m thinking: ‘(It’s) the car. Is the car alright?’
“And she went ‘no, the car’s fine’. And I went ‘what is it?’ Before she replied “I think I’ve broken my arm.”
After he then agreed to meet her at the hospital, he said that he was initially expecting a quick “in and out” visit, but it was anything but, as the pair were left with an approximate eight-hour wait to be seen by a professional: “It was a Monday, three o’clock. So you’re thinking, I’ll be in and out, it’s Monday, you know, dead quiet. It was rammed.”
After confirming that she had broken her arm, his attention turned to his wedding day, saying that his wife was “mortified” at the prospect of her mum having to wear a cast, especially when it came to her appearing in the customary wedding pictures.
Despite his mother-in-law’s painful accident in the build-up to the wedding, their happy day went ahead as planned last weekend as the lucky couple were joined by friends and family as well as soap legends to mark the special occasion at Manchester Cathedral.
The pair first met on Coronation Street after Hanni had been working for the press office (before later going on to script write) while Jack had already been on the soap for well over a decade by that time.
Despite working together, it wasn’t until a mutual friend’s wedding in 2020 that the pair struck up a connection, with Jack previously recalling the moments they “flirted and chatted”, during an interview with OK! magazine.
Away from his love life, Jack has established himself as one of the longest serving actors in Coronation Street history as he celebrated his 25th anniversary on the cobbles earlier this year.
While his character has become a fan favourite down the years, his life on the street has seen much upheaval as well as a frequently strained relationship with his on-screen mum Gail Platt (who was played by Helen Worth until her departure in 2024).
Coronation Street is set to return this evening (Friday, August 1) at 8pm. on ITV.
