A woman says she has been “left with nothing” after her handbag containing £2,000 went missing on Saturday following the Pride parade.

The woman believes that her black Michael Kors back may have been stolen on Saturday, July 26, following an incident on Great Victoria Street outside of The Royal Navy Club where she spoke with a woman and a man.

Speaking to Belfast Live, the woman says that she was quite drunk when she sat down on the benches outside of the social club in Belfast City Centre and started talking to another woman. She says that she was getting on well with her, when her partner started to shout which she says made her feel threatened and leave.

However, she left the area without her handbag which she says contained £2,000, which was “all the money that she had”.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, said: “I was in the city centre celebrating Pride and had a quite a bit to drink when I sat down on the benches outside The Royal Navy Club on Great Victoria Street.

“A woman came over and started talking to me and we were getting on well when suddenly her partner started to shout and I got quite scared and left the area, but didn’t bring my handbag with me.

“When I returned to the area to find my bag, it was gone and now I have been left with absolutely nothing as I had all of my money in the bag. I have some learning difficulties so I don’t use bank cards and withdraw all of my money every month to pay my bills.

“I am just hoping that someone can help me find my bag again because I don’t know what I am going to do and I am worried that it may have been stolen by the couple that I was talking to.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a missing handbag in the Great Victoria Street area of south Belfast on Sunday 27th July.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who may have any information or footage that could assist in locating the item, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 154 27/07/25.”
