The BBC has confirmed that Line of Duty is returning for another series after the crime drama came to an end in 2021.
There’s brilliant news for Line of Duty enthusiasts as the BBC has announced the cherished drama is making a comeback for a seventh series.
Returning to their iconic roles will be stars including Martin Compston, Adrian Dunbar and Vicky McClure, who recently graced screens once more in another hugely popular action-packed programme.
Viewers were heartbroken when Line of Duty reached its dramatic conclusion back in 2021.
The series six finale became the most-watched drama episode, excluding soaps, since contemporary records commenced in 2002, drawing 17 million viewers over 28 days.
Now, Jed Mercurio’s acclaimed thriller is staging its eagerly awaited comeback with six fresh episodes planned, with production beginning in Belfast during Spring next year, reports Wales Online.

Discussing its comeback, the three principal stars expressed nothing but enthusiasm, with Martin Compston remarking: “Line of Duty has been a job of a lifetime. Not only in terms of the show’s success, but the people I’ve had the opportunity to work with, I now call some of my closest friends.
“I can’t wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together.”
Vicky McClure commented: “It goes without saying I’m so excited Line of Duty is back! Can’t wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we’ll see you soon!”
The fresh series will witness AC-12 dissolved and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards.
With anti-corruption operations proving more challenging than ever, Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming and Ted Hastings face their most delicate investigation to date.
A synopsis reveals: “Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, a charismatic officer winning plaudits for a string of takedowns of organised crime, is accused of abusing his position of trust to act as a sexual predator.
“But is Gough’s case a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows?”
Adding to the anticipation, Adrian Dunbar teased: “As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year.
Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns.”
While there hasn’t been a confirmed release date yet, more casting announcements are expected in due course.
BBC Drama Director Lindsay Salt chimed in: “Line of Duty is beloved by audiences and critics alike and its amazing ratings are a true testament to the success of Jed’s writing, the work from the brilliant team at World Productions and the entire cast and crew.
“I’m so pleased that after four long years Line of Duty will be back filming soon and can’t wait for BBC viewers to be back on the edge of their seats.”
The first six series of Line of Duty are available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
