I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Ruby Wax has been defended by her close friend Kathy Lette, who has admitted she is ‘worried’ about the comedian
I’m A Celebrity contestant Ruby Wax has received support from a close friend after stirring up some drama in the jungle.
The 72-year-old presenter is braving Ant and Dec’s bushtucker trials this year, alongside Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley and Loose Women’s Kelly Brook.
Despite the series having only just begun, Ruby has already threatened to sue producers and warned Angry Ginge not to steal her spotlight in front of the cameras.
Her good mate Kathy Lette has now come to her defence during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine.
She stated that Ruby was taking part in the show to challenge ageism, asserting, “We are still there, and we’re fabulous,” reports the Express.

“Ruby and I are both obsessed with women having a sensational second act,” Kathy began. “You can put yourself first for the first time in your life, and just when that happens, society puts you out to career pasture.”
However, when Lorraine asked Kathy if the other contestants would “get her”, she admitted: “I’m worried about that, will they get her? They will eventually.”
She continued: “Beneath her comic facade and comic genius, she’s very vulnerable and very empathetic. She’s talked openly about her depression and mental health, and she’s excellent at getting people to strip off to their emotional underwear.”
When probed about the reaction to Ruby, especially after her first comments to AngryGinge, Kathy went on: “We do have to worry about her light.
“And just think about this, Martin Kemp is gorgeous, he’s described as a silver fox, Ruby and I would be written off as old hags! You never hear a man dismissed as mutton dressed as ram.”
Kathy threw her support behind Ruby winning, saying: “She’s very competitive, she’s not just witty, she’s gritty, there’s a lot of survival mechanism in Ruby, and she’s not phased by things.”
Ahead of taking part in the show, Ruby had already issued a complaint, saying: “I am looking forward to getting into the Jungle because this hotel is trash. I am complaining and changing rooms already.”
When asked about how she’d cope with the hunger and exhaustion, and if it would bring out a different side to her, she warned the producers should be worried.
She slammed: “Oh, then I would get snarly, but not to anybody. I would just get snarly at the people who are producing this show and remind them that they are insured and I could sue them.”
I’m A Celebrity returns to ITV1 and ITVX tonight at 9pm. Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV1 and ITVX.
