“I’m very disappointed that we were involved in it, and I’m sure Kilcormac-Killoughey feel the exact same way,” said Henry Shefflin afterwards
Gardai have confirmed that a man in his 40s was arrested and later charged after a ‘public order incident’ marred Sunday’s AIB Leinster Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final clash at UPMC Nowlan Park. Seconds after the final whistle in Ballyhale Shamrock’s victory over Kilcormac Killoughey of Offaly, players from both sides were involved in a coming together. It was then that a person not involved with either squad or management team got involved with Ballyhale and Kilkenny forward and former All-Star Adrian Mullen. A statement on Sunday night confirmed: “Gardaí have arrested a man (aged in his 40’s) following a public order incident at a Kilkenny sports ground this afternoon, Sunday 9th November 2025, “He has since been charged, and is scheduled to appear before the courts at a later date. As this is now before the courts, there is no further information available at this time. Investigations are ongoing.” Fractious scenes at the end of this Leinster quarter-final marred what was otherwise a statement win for Shamrocks, the Kilkenny kingpins squeezing the life out of Kilcormac-Killoughey in the third quarter. “I’m very disappointed that we were involved in it, and I’m sure Kilcormac-Killoughey feel the exact same way,” said Henry Shefflin afterwards, though initially there was little of note in the coming together of players from both panels at the final whistle. “It was unsavoury, we absolutely don’t condone it, and I’m disappointed we were involved in such a situation because the match was over” said the Ballyhale manager and club icon.
