Tributes have been flooding in for a ‘remarkable’ Northern Ireland woman who died following a collision in Bermuda last week.
Joanne McCaul passed away after a single-vehicle crash on the small island territory around 2.30am on Tuesday, October 21. It is believed that the Co Tyrone woman was riding a scooter at the time of the accident and had been residing in Bermuda for the past 20 years.
Bermuda Police confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are still underway, and a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support Ms McCaul’s family.

A spokesperson for Bermuda Police said: “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of Ms. Joanne McCaul, who was involved in a single-vehicle collision on South Road, near the junction with Lover’s Lane, Paget, around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.”, reports the Irish Mirror.
They further added: “The Bermuda Police Service is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have any relevant information, to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788 or 211.”
The Pickled Onion Restaurant and Bar, a well-known eatery in Bermuda, penned a heartfelt tribute to Joanne, hailing her as an “inspiration”.
Joanne managed several restaurants in the Island Restaurant Group, all of which have praised “wee Jo” for her “passion, laughter, and warmth”.
“With our deepest sympathies, we share the heart-breaking news that we have lost our ‘Wee Jo’.
“Joanne McCaul was an inspiration to the entire Island Restaurant Group family. Joanne joined IRG in 2004 as a server at Hog Penny, where her dedication and enthusiasm quickly shone through. Over the years, she climbed the ladder into management, leading with kindness, strength, and grace.
“Jo managed several of our IRG restaurants, and her final position was as Restaurant Manager at The Pickled Onion and Brew. Her passion, laughter, and warmth touched everyone who had the privilege of working with her.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and everyone who loved our Wee Jo. You will forever be in our hearts. May you find peace and fly with the angels.”
