Man in his 70s dies following late-night flat fire in Lisburn

A man in his 70s has died following a late-night flat fire in Lisburn, Co Antrim.

The incident on Tonagh Drive in the city was first reported at around 10.50pm on Tuesday night, October 28.

Despite brave efforts to save the resident by Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service crews, who entered the property with breathing apparatus, the occupant passed away.

A statement on Wednesday evening from the NIFRS said: “The thoughts and sympathies of Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service are with the loved ones of a man who died following a flat fire in Tonagh Drive, Lisburn.

“Firefighters were called to reports of a flat fire at 10.50pm yesterday [Tuesday 28 October 2025]. Two appliances from Lisburn Fire Station attended the incident.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. Tragically, one male occupant, aged in his 70s, died as a result of the fire.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and Firefighters left the scene at 12.23am [Wednesday 29 October 2025].”
