Each night, a lone unrehearsed actor who has seen neither the show nor script takes centre-stage in front of a live audience

The festival’s 63rd edition returns from October 14 to November 9 with a new season of contemporary arts and culture.

Roisin Gallagher, the star of Irish comedy series The Dry and Sky Atlantic hit The Lovers, and Blue Lights’ Nathan Braniff will take to the stage in Belfast for unconventional performances.
Both actors will step into the spotlight completely unrehearsed as they separately perform in ‘Instructions’, a new show written and directed by playwright Nathan Ellis where every performance is unique.
Each night, a lone, unrehearsed actor who has seen neither the show nor script takes centre-stage in front of a live audience ready to receive instructions in a high-stakes experience that pushes at the boundaries of life and art.
A spokesperson said: “A show about AI, creativity, and the dying days of capitalism, Instructions – described as part play, part theatrical experiment – deliberately blurs the borders between reality and fiction.
“Presented as part of this year’s Belfast International Arts Festival, Instructions will be performed live at The Lyric on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd October.”
Announcing Roisin Gallagher as the first performer to brave the role in Belfast and Nathan as the second, writer Nathan Ellis he is excited to see her take on the show.
Writer Nathan Ellis said: “Roisin and Nathan are wonderful actors, whose work I admire tremendously, so it’s a thrill they have agreed to be part of Instructions.
“Each actor who performs the show brings their own unique interpretation, and I’m so excited to see how they perform the piece. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
